Autumn is in the air, here in Simpsonville and I've been in the mood to try some autumn still lifes lately. I bought the pumpkins and hunted around in my back yard for the grape leaves. I knew there were some hidden under the leaves out there somewhere and finding them was like finding a treasure.

Autumn Still Life
8"x8" oil on panel
$125 plus $10 shipping
This is the third stifll life that I did at my sister's house while visiting in Omaha. I brought my favorite little bottle there with me and found some pretty autumn colored branches to paint. I tried to do it in 30 minutes but failed, this little bottle really gives me a hard time. Thanks for looking.

Unruly Zinnias
10x10x1 oil on panel
$200 unframed plus $10 for shipping
This piece is a continuation of my Zinnia series. As long as my zinnias are still alive, I will paint them. They are such unruly children, as I attempt to arrange them in a vase. None of them will stay where i put them, always looking in the wrong direction. (They remind me of my grandkids when we are trying to get a decent family photo :) It takes me about as long to get them the way I want them, as it does to paint them. Well, almost.
I will be sending out with a monthly email newsletter. If you are interested in receiving this, please go to http://www.jacki-newell.artistwebsites.com/ and click on the link"join e-mail list" located right under my profile picture.

Eagles over the Platte, Schram Park, Gretna, Ne
This is a small oil painting, 8"x6". It's a study for the large painting I did for my husband earlier this month, only instead of the deer, I have eagles flying overhead. There's a cute story I have of my sister when she was college age. As I remember it, I think she was at Schram Park, called Gretna Fish Hatchery at the time, and was watching an eagle there. To her delight, he flew right over her blue pinto and pooped on it. The whole car was covered in white splats over the top. She was so proud of it, she didn't wash her car for a long time.
It is for sale, unframed for $50. add $5. for shipping. If interested in purchasing this painting, email me at www.jacki.newell@gmail.com

Fiasco
Wow, I hate to say it, but my painting, that had such great beginnings turned out to be a fiasco!!
You won't believe how many hours i have spent on that painting, and before i went to bed last night, i scraped it all down. I couldn't stand it. So many hours, I'm amazed actually, at the amount of time i've had to paint and the stamina i've had to stand before the easel, which is a good thing, but oh, how much paint i have used and how many things i have tried to remedy the painting. It's kind of sad that it had to be my first painting of my new career to be such a fiasco, but, I can say that i have learned from it and hopefully will benefit in the future from those things i have learned. Yes, and how embarrasing that it would have to be my first painting for my blog that is turning out like this. And sad that it is my husband's Christmas/retirement present. (Oh well, he's getting that TV also :) One thing i have definately learned-I will not make a large painting again (this one was huge for me-24x30) without doing a smaller version to work out the colors, etc. Live and learn. If i can get a decent photo of the scraped canvas i will post it. It's kind of interesting and i might be able to make a buck emerge from the scraped down landscape. That might be fun.
