Pallette Knife Zinnias

I decided just for the fun of it to try painting the zinnias with a pallette knife. It was fun, but not as easy as I hoped it would be. I spent a large part of the day on it, and it's so small.

Patio at Mary's, Greenville, SC

Way too hot to paint outdoors. I know, I'm a wimp, and am choosing to stay inside my air conditioned studio to paint from photos. Not as much fun, but comfy.

This painting gave me so much trouble. I spent 2 1/2 days struggling and fighting with it. I'm so glad to be done. I blame it on the lighting in my studio, and the light in my house, for the most part is just too dark. It looks fine while on my easel with the easel light on but as soon as i turn off the light , the colors look so dull and dark. So, today, I went over it with my easel light off, going only by the light from my window. It looks so much better now.

I've been wanting to paint this scene for a long time now, and have gotten out of my system. It looks nice in a gold frame.

I'm getting ready for the West End Art festival in Greenville, in mid September. Come and see me there if you live in this area.

Completed Painting-"The Arbor"

I finished this last night. The final phase was adding details, fixing a few things that were bothering me, mainly the color of the shadows-I grayed them down a bit.
I'm sending a photo of this off to a competition for the Masters Garden Society here in the Upstate. We'll see what happens.

Falls Park, Greenville, SC

This needs work, but I'm posting it anyway. What a perfect summer day it was today. I sat in a shady spot overlooking the beautiful waterfalls in Falls Park, Greenville, SC. I'm not particularly proud of this one, except for the fact that I managed to keep everything organized and it is arranged very much like the actual scene. I need to work on the rushing water, to make it more water-like. Because of all the rain, it really is rushing and powerful this year. It was viewed from a distance and i don't like the fact that it looks like a miniature waterfall viewed up close, rather than the large powerful waterfall that it is, further away. I will try to fix that. I'll post it again sometime to campare the two. It was so fun, though, to sit and paint in such a beautful park on a perfect summer day.

View from Mt. Vernon Gardens, Omaha, Ne

This is a small plein air oil painting that I did last summer, but thought i should post it so i would have something to post, since I am still in Henderson, NV waiting for the birth of my grandaughter, and haven't painted at all in the past 2 weeks. It looked as if she was going to be born a few weeks early, so I rushed out here to babysit my two little ones when my daughter Jaimi went to the hospital, but so far, the little stinker is staying put. Jaimi will be induced tomorrow nite, and the baby will most likely come sometime in the early hours on her actual due date, May 31. I'm praying she'll come today sometime.
