Stages of the New York Taxi painting
Here is the first stage of my painting New York Taxis. I just put in the darks and lights very thinly, making sure I like the overall design and figure out the values (darks and lights). I don't really do much as far as line drawing, mainly just blocks of shapes.
Then I use color, staying with dark colors in the areas i had blocked in with dark shapes and light colors in the light areas. I used raw sienna for the darker shades of yellow in the taxis and used cad yellow med for the highlights.
As you can tell in this final stage, that I changed my mind about the taxi on the left. I didn't like the way the back end looked so much like the main taxi. I forgot to take a picture of that before i changed it. I'm working hard on trying to put down one stroke at a time with fresh paint, rather than dab, dab, dab with the same paint. I like the result. This will be posted on the http://www.differentstrokesfromdifferentfolks.blogspot.com/ blog next week. Karin Jurick is on a road trip right now and has asked us to wait til Tuesday to send them to her. I noticed that Karin did the same thing that I did with the taxi on the left, or I did the same thing she did, since she finished hers first. I didn't copy her, I promise!!

New York Taxis-Different Strokes blog challenge
This is a painting I started last week and was not able to get back to it until today. It was painted from a photo that Karin Jurick posted on her Different Strokes from Different Folks blog. She selects a photo to put on her blog for three weeks and her blog readers paint their version of the photo and send it to Karin. She then posts all the photos. I find it facinating to see all the styles presented. If you are interested, you can check out her blog at http://www.differentstrokesfromdifferentfolks.blogspot.com/. My painting won't be on there for a while because she is on the road presently and will post more photos when she gets back.I enjoyed this painting. I painted it quite small (6x8) and after i started it, I wished I had used a larger panel. I will try to post the steps that i went through as I painted this.
